My Great Story....My Past

My name is Kinsey Krupa, and I am from Salida, Colorado. I was a medical assistant two years before nursing school and have lived in Salida for seven years. I worked as a Medical assistant in Salida. With the guidance and support of the providers I worked for, I became a Certified Lactation Consultant (CLC), assisting new mothers in forming successful breastfeeding relationships with their newborns.

Being a mother of a six-year-old, I enjoy being involved in community activities at the local public library, parks, and pools. Inspired by my connection to the community during the COVID-19 pandemic, my husband and I volunteered to make lunches available to children affected by school closures. We organized donations and delivery volunteers and created lunches in our Food Truck. Thanks to these community relationships, I have received support that has enabled me to pursue nursing prerequisites, maintain an excellent GPA, and become a CLC while working full-time.

I have Multiple Sclerosis, and my experience sparked my desire to pursue nursing. Initially overwhelmed, my experience was not as gloomy and doom as one might think. With evolving treatments and an exceptional care team that empowered me to be an informed patient, I received outstanding care from phenomenal nurses who helped me understand my condition and live an active lifestyle. I want to be that nurse—the nurse who is a calming presence for others in chaotic moments, providing comfort both medically and emotionally.

The Adams State University School of Nursing has inspired me to strive for qualities that make up the professional, safe, and compassionate nurse that I hope to be.  I am committed to using my nursing skills to impact my community positively, looking for gaps and assisting from there.  Through community health initiatives and volunteer work, I aim to make a difference in the lives of individuals and families. I want to become a nurse who meets not only the physical healthcare needs of my patients but also supports their emotional and social well-being. As I refine my abilities at ASU, I am excited to embrace the challenges and rewards that my journey ahead will bring.

Whats Next ....

My Nursing degree at Adams State University has helped me cultivate a deeper understanding of the nursing process and what it means to hold the trusted title of a registered nurse. My goal is to work at the bedside unit within a rural healthcare setting, such as Salida or a nearby town, for two years after graduating with my BSN from the Adams State School of Nursing. Working in a smaller community hospital will allow me to develop a strong foundation in patient care and build meaningful relationships with my patients and their families; this was cultivated through my clinical experiences at Adams State School of Nursing. After that experience, I plan to transition to a larger hospital in Colorado Springs or Denver. I also intend to pursue an MSN degree, as I am a lifelong learner, and I know I will be eager to expand my knowledge and skills in nursing..
